Decluttering: Closet
Yesterday I had a conversation with my dad about luggage limits:
Me: 100 pounds is about two suitcases right? And the carry-on?
Dad: No way would they let you bring 100 pounds. It’s 70 max. Probably one suitcase.
Me: One suitcase?!
Well, since it’s (sort of) a new year, I decided apply some feng shui by decluttering my closet and get rid of old and/or unused clothes. It’s a lot easier (and less guilt-inducing) to get rid of clothes with the knowledge that you won’t be able to keep/bring most of it anyway.
Keeping: (excluding underwear, socks, and shoes)

Conclusion: I might not actually have enough stuff to fill up a suitcase + carry-on. The question is, does this give me an excuse to go out and buy more clothes? (The American Way: Yes.)

Hey Sarah,
At least with my flight, I was able to take two suitcases of 50 pounds and two “carry-on or personal items”.
This is the type of thing that you should start planning as soon as you get all of the information from CIEE or Experiement.
But it’s always a good idea to clean up every once in awhile.
As for your blog, it really looks great so far. Keep going! I would look around and comment on other blogs with similar themes for ideas and interesting discussion. After all, one of the most interesting parts of a blog is the interaction inside of a community!

So, it really depends on the airlines you take. For example, I know that Southwest now allows two 50lb check-in bags, one carry-on bag that will be stowed in an overhead compartment (these can be pretty big; I almost never check my bags when I come home for vacation since I just bring one fatty roller-backpack style one), and one “personal-item”, like a purse or backpack.
Just take into account how much baggage you can handle, after all, you only have two hands. Sometimes it’s good if you bring a duffel, since you can stack that on top of the rolling one. Plus you don’t want to cram everything tightly since you’ll inevitably be bringing trinkets back for the rest of us, neh?
haha jk, but you will most likely be bringing back personal items that you acquire there.
