Wisdom Teeth

Published by Sarah at 1:05 pm under Pre-Departure

Yesterday morning I went to the dentist for a regular checkup. Despite regular brushing & flossing, I apparently I have gingivitis Thanks to my dad, I have super weak gums, and the oral hygienist even looked at me suspiciously when I told her I floss everyday. Then she told me to be more aggressive when I floss. Or, to put it another way, to draw blood. And unfortunately, she’s right. >.<

Anyway, when Dr. Smith came in, I mentioned that I’d be gone for a year, which meant scheduling for pulling out my wisdom teeth (which haven’t shown up yet) would be kind of awkward. He decided to give me another x-ray of my teeth, and after showing that to the oral surgeon, said that since my roots haven’t grown yet, it might actually be easier to pull out my wisdom teeth this summer before I leave instead of waiting another year. My dad thinks our dentists are just trying to make more money, but that’s the way it goes. Yayy.

Ooooo…Good luck with that. I just got mine out a month ago because I didn’t want to wait and have all the work done when I had braces get messed up while abroad. It is definalty woth getting it done asap. For the first two days you will be wondering “Why on earth have I done this to myself,” but after that you’ll just think, “I guess it wasn’t that bad.” You’ll be glad when it is all done and you don’t have to do it later.

P.S. Your dad sounds like my dad ; )

Does the toothpaste you use list an anti-gingivitis ingredient on it? A lot of toothpastes don’t have it, but I try to make sure I use one that does. Well, I know your pain :)

Eee, it would suck getting them out, but once they’re out, they’re out! And if you get them during the summer before you leave, you won’t face the indignity of coming to school and have everyone see you with chubby, chipmunk cheeks. =D

    lolll, thanks everyone. :D

@Kelly - Yes, and that’s why we desperately need some doctors in the family that don’t like halfway across the world. xD

@Linda - Yeah…Triclosan, 0.30%. I guess I don’t really think about brushing my gums that much, but that shall change! You know my pain? o.o

Try using a water-pik to toughen up your gums. I had braces and a broken jaw, and it really helped a lot.
May I add you to my blogroll for next year’s exchange students?

Yes, definitely. :D Sorry about the long wait for this comment as I logged off before seeing this comment.

As for the water-pik, after googling and looking up ‘water pik’ on Amazon, followed by ‘water-pick versus flossing,’ I’ve decided not to buy it. I think my dad actually has something like that, but he stopped using it long ago (my parents never have any problems at the dentist). One week after that dentist appointment and my gums are already looking up and pink! Thank you for the suggestion anyway, though. :)

LOL I still haven’t gotten my wisdom teeth out, but I’m getting them out in May. I have some gingivitis too. =\
